Brow Lift New York City
Introduction to Brow Lift
A Brow Lift is a general term that encompasses various surgical techniques to lift the droopy brow. It is often an adjunct procedure with upper blepharoplasty to improve the aged look. At our practice in NYC, brow lift has become one of our most popular facial plastic surgery procedures. Brow ptosis or droopy brow starts at an early age. If you pay attention and follow the aging pattern of a person, you can often notice his/her brow descend over time relative to the underlying bone. The effect of that results in a “heavy” upper eyelid. In severe cases, a droopy brow not only causes cosmetic concerns but can also partially block your vision, especially in the upper visual field.
Since eyes are in the center of the face, droopy eyebrows affect all nearby structures and cause an overall aged look. The descent of the brow makes the upper lid look heavy and gives a sleepy appearance, and because of the heaviness felt in the upper lid, droopy eyebrows individuals often have to forcefully elevate the brow using their forehead muscle, which further deepens wrinkles on the forehead.
Dr. William Lao is a top plastic surgeon specializing in brow and forehead lift in NYC and strives to deliver the best brow lift results in New York.
What is a Brow and Forehead Lift?
A Brow Lift will remove the drooping or furrowing muscle and tissue in your forehead creating a smoother look and raising the eyebrow to minimize frown lines. Dr. Lao utilizes a conventional surgical method that places an incision just behind your hairline to hide any surgical scars. He may also perform the procedure with the use of an endoscope, which is a viewing instrument that can help the procedure by minimizing the incisions as necessary. Regardless of what technique is best for you, the results are the same.
Who are the Best Candidates for a Brow and Forehead Lift?
We always encourage our patients interested in surgery to maintain a healthy lifestyle first and foremost. The best candidates are those who are concerned about forehead wrinkles brought on by the body’s natural aging process, those who may suffer from a genetic predisposition that creates a furrowed brow line or may just have creases created from stressful experiences. While anybody can get a brow lift due to predispositions or stress, our average patient is around 40 – 60 years old.
What are the Benefits of a Brow and Forehead Lift?
A Brow Lift surgery is primarily used in order to regain the youthful look in most of our patients. However, in our experience, we’ve noticed many advantages in getting a Brow Lift, including but not limited to:
- The reduction of moderate to severe forehead frown lines
- A less tired or angry facial expression
- The removal of deep forehead creases and/or wrinkles and furrows that come with age
- Less heavy or “hooded” upper eyelids

What to Expect on the Day of a Brow and Forehead Lift?
Just as in upper eyelid procedures, there are many ways of doing a brow lift. All techniques achieve the common goal of lifting the brow but there are variations in terms of the location of the incision, the relative elevation of the lateral brow vs. the medial brow, and whether a combination procedure with the upper eyelid should be performed to enhance the overall look. Each brow procedure has its pros and cons. The direct incision method is one of the most powerful lifting procedures but it comes with a visible scar on the top of the eyebrow. The traditional coronal brow lift procedure is the gold standard procedure but it also carries with it the risk of incision line hair loss and loss of scalp sensation. The Endoscopic brow lift procedure uses minimal incisions and can provide adequate lifting of the brow but is considered not as powerful as the direct and coronal brow lifts. The list of procedures goes on and on…
The best brow lift technique is one that is customized for you based on your forehead height, brow position, and the tendency of scarring after a thorough discussion with a plastic surgeon.

Is a brow lift permanent?

Can I combine a Brow and Forehead Lift with other procedures?
